Agenda Item #5, Public Comments (video time mark 0:01:02):

[Though public comments can sometimes irritate the city council, there is value to both the council and the public in hearing them. While they can’t eliminate public comments entirely without violating the Open Meetings Act, your city council has occasionally decided not to acknowledge public comments during a city council meeting unless the person submitting the comments also appears at the meeting (in-person or electronically) to personally read them. In the past, members of the public have been cut off for exceeding the city council’s arbitrary three-minute time limit (it’s arbitrary because no time limits are required by the Open Meetings Act).

If your public comments were submitted to the council but not read, or if you tried to make public comments but your comments were cut short, please email them to clarkstonsunshine@gmail.com and I will include them in my informal meeting summaries either under public comments or under the specific agenda item that you want to speak to.]

(Wylie read the rules for public comments.)

Wylie said does anybody have any public comments? Okay. Well, somebody on council might. Item #6. There is no public comments.

Agenda Item #6 – FYI: (video time mark 0:01:33):

Item #6a – Clarkston Community Awards (page 3/23 of the council packet)

Wylie said Item #6, FYI, is Clarkston Community Awards. And the Clarkston, and I’m on the committee for the Clarkston Community Awards. The – it’s a very worthwhile organization if you’ve never been involved with it. It’s really interesting to see all the different things people within the community, both Clarkston and Independence and I think even Springfield, how they contribute to the community. There is a awards breakfast. It is Wednesday May 13th from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. It’s at the Clarkston Community Church on Clarkston Road, right at the big bend. One of the things that’s very important for this to take place is we need nominations. Nominations are due March 20th, and they can be submitted to www.clarkston.org, which is the Chamber of Commerce. They take care of a lot of business for this. And there’s Citizen of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, Youth of the Year, Business Person of the Year, Adult Youth Volunteer, Community Beautification, Community Enhancement, Community Collaboration. We’ve had many people from the city who have been nominated and actually won this award. So, it’s worthy. If you think somebody has done something standout to help the community, it’s worth, it’s worth nominating them and attending.

Jones said you know, I think the only other thing for the FYI would just be congratulations to Councilwoman Forte on the arrival of her new baby today. Avery said boy or girl. Wylie said boy. Brian. Rodgers said Brian Vincent. Wylie said I got a little bit of tidbits. She’s, last I heard, she was asleep. Jones said congratulations to the family. Sleep while you’re there.

Wylie said anything else for FYI.
